Brachypelma boehmei, commonly known as the Mexican Fireleg or Mexican Rustleg is truly one of the most beautiful tarantulas in the world. I received two of my girls as freebies spiderlings of 1/8" (0.3175cm in size. It has been confused with B. smithi; both have been called Mexican redknee tarantulas. With constant feeding and temperatures in the low to mid 80's, they can reach a size of three inches (7.62cm) within three years. Several other species of Brachypelma are also found between them, including B. baumgarteni, B. boehmei, and B. auratum.
That on B. smithi tends to concentrate front and center, i.e., darkest anteriorly, in mask fashion, and centrally around the fovea in a starburst patten (see the photo above).
