The new report, Health Equity In England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On, examines a decade of data to understand the worsening situation of health inequality in the UK.

Female life expectancy declined in the most deprived 10 percent of neighbourhoods between 2010-12 and 2016-18 and there were only negligible increases in male life expectancy in these areas. The #Marmot2020 report shows that, for the first time in more than 100 years, life expectancy has failed to increase across the country and for the poorest 10% of women it has actually declined. The report, which follows on from Professor Sir Michael Marmot’s review on health inequalities ten years ago, highlights that for the first time in more than 100 years, life expectancy has flattened since 2010. The Health Foundation commissioned the Institute of Health Equity to examine progress in addressing health inequalities in England, 10 years on from the landmark study Fair Society, Healthy Lives (The Marmot Review).
