Many different kinds of Mammals live in the variety of ecosystems found in Maine. This facility acts as an emergency room for critically ill and injured seals. It is very exciting to see an animal in the wild and often times we only get a quick glimpse before it disappears. MMoME is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that responds to stranded seals, dolphins, whales, porpoises and sea turtles from Kittery to Rockland. To expand that effective presentation, we have added some creatures to the table. We are humbled by this recognition of Lynda’s unwavering dedication to marine mammal response, care, research and conservation in Maine. The state of Maine is home to many amazing mammals. In the spring of 2016, Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME) received federal authorization to temporarily care for seals, making it the first and only marine mammal triage center on the east coast. In all, Maine has 58 species of wild mammals that currently live within its borders. She was spotted on Wells Beach earlier this week and reported to our hotline due to some wounds.
This does not include mammals, such as seals and whales, that must live in ocean environments or domestic mammals like cattle, dogs, and people.
