(Eagle News) — The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has marked tawilis or “sardinella tawilis,” a freshwater sardine species found exclusively in the Philippines, particularly in Taal Lake, as an “endangered” species because of the alarming decrease in its population. Tawilis, the only freshwater sardine in the world, is an endemic species of sardines that can only be found in Taal Lake in the Philippines.
The plan came after the Switzerland-based International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed the Sardinella tawilis as endangered.
