Social Behaviors Boesemani Rainbow Fish The Boeseman’s Rainbowfish do great in a bigger fish neighborhood aquarium of similarly sized fish, but do incredibly well in a geographical storage tank stocked with other rainbowfish. The suggested ratio is typically one male per two females. Some precaution should be taken with the choice of tankmates, however: Boesemanis are particularly fast and greedy eaters, and some slower moving species (such as gouramis) will find it difficult to compete for food. Pairs are perfectly fine as well. These rainbowfish love to eat bloodworms, and I have found that spirulina enhances their brilliant blues. I have found though if you have a 30 gallon tank it is best not to put any other rainbow species in with them ans space is limited and it is best to ahve at least 6 of the rainbows. Boeseman's rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani), also known as the Boesemani rainbowfish, is a species of fish in the family Melanotaeniidae. For that size tank you could have a really nice good group of any of those rainbows, 10 being a nice round number. Torpedo Barbs and Clown Loaches both love a strong current, but in no uncertain terms should they be permanently kept in the same tank, one is a temperate fish that should spend half the year at <20C and one is a high end tropical that has 25C at its minimum requirement.
